Distortion of model in Layout Viewports

Hello.

I have been working on a model with no issue for a couple of weeks and suddenly today the viewports in Layout are displaying a distorted/exploded version of the model. Image attached.

Is this a software glitch? Am I perhaps working beyond my laptop processing power?

Many thanks.

How far is the model from the origin? Right click on an axis line in SketchUp and click Reset. Then check to see how far the model is away from the the origin.

Hi. Thanks for the response DaveR A right click isn’t giving me the option to reset. It is greyed out. The model is 2.3m form y and 10.3m form x

How large is the model?

6.1m long. 1.8m deep and 3.2m tall.

Share the LO file so we can take a look.

Thanks. Here is the file.

I noted that you have modified the camera properties for the viewport which meant that fixes to the scene in SketchUp won’t be shown in the viewport.

I reset the Camera in LO and then in the SketchUp model I repositioned the camera for the scene.

I also fixed the incorrect tag usage and purged unused stuff from the LayOut file.

See if this looks better.

Many thanks DaveR. I will take a look. As you can see from my last post, I am finding the use of angled view in Layout tricky.

That file works and applying the same logic to the original file solves the issue.

Thank you.

I’m not sure what is tricky about that. If you look at the SketchUp model embedded in the LO file I sent back you can see how I set up that scene with the model centered in the model window.

FWIW, I decided to look at your front, side, and top views and noticed you have the camera placed sort of randomly for those. That makes setting up the viewports in LayOut harder. In this video I’ve fixed those three scenes. Look at the axes when I switch between the Front and Right scenes and see how the model stays centered in the model window. Then in LO notice how simple it is to just copy the first viewport, change the scene and use the arrow keys to move the viewport.

Hi DaveR.

There is no need to be rude. I am simply asking an honest question.

I would assume that you recognise that some people are still learning the software and don’t have the experience that you have.

I have valued your advice and always been polite but I may way chose to look elsewhere the next time I have a question to ask.

It is not the first time that you have been rude and I have ignored the rudeness in the past.

What did I write that is rude? There was absolutely no intention to be rude on my part. I made the video because I was trying to help you learn. If that’s considered rude I will remove it and I will refrain from trying to help you any further.

English is not my mother tongue but I fail to see where Dave is rude.

That’s a shame that you don’t understand. I will certainly look elsewhere for help.

… huh ?

like anssi, I’m not a native, english is my third language, and I fail to see any rudeness in Dave’s message? could you please point it out ?
was it the part where he said it wasn’t as tricky as you thought ? or the part where he explains how he fixed your file by making sure everything is well center and easy to switch ?

I don’t know what planet you’re from, but I don’t think anyone on this earth would call Dave’s comments above rude.
By the way, I don’t know a more helpful and kind person than Dave here.

Good choice. Please!

Edit:
Yes, I am the rude person. You can be angry with me.

That’s not what I meant in my post. I’m not sure what he finds is tricky about setting up the scene. Had he clarified what he finds tricky I would have tried to help sort that out, too.

Back to school for me. To re-learn English and all the different meanings of @DaveR’s words that I didn’t know of.

I will pile on here. What did Dave say that was rude? If anyone is being rude here it is you with the post I quoted.
