So, this is the best response to a question about an application I’ve seen. It took forever to get here, but I’m including this in the tests sets I use in my communities. Such good work. Keep it up!
My preferred access would be:
- Tools/[mouse-R-click] Dimensions, pop-up window → select Units
Rock on,

I realize this is an older thread, but I got here googling for a similar issue.
In SketchUp Free (web), I found that switching to Tape[t] when I had re-opened a model defaulted to x’ y" display, which is not what I want to see. I always work in fractional inches only (woodworking stuff). There is a not a discrete setting for this that I have found in Free.
However, if you select Model Info > Length Units > Choose Decimal Inches, click away from the open sidebar in the model, and then switch back to Model Info > Length Units > Fractional Inches your readings from Tape are now in just fractional inches - no feet!
This seems like it may be a bug, but I was happy to find a way to turn off the x’ y" display. I’m not sure how to deal with the UI and large number of combinations adding in “inches only” display would create. I am sure that a very clever UX person could make it work.
I am looking for this answer in sketchup for schools. I am familar with the software versions to go to window>model info> units.
However in the web version, there is only feet inches or decimal inches. It is much easier for students since tape measures read inches predominantly.
thanks
