Delay in U.S. Customs for Seller Application Form Sent from France

Hi,
I sent the form by mail to request to become a seller on the Warehouse extension, from France to the United States (Colorado) via La Poste.

According to the tracking information, the letter arrived in the United States about 22 days ago, but its status has been stuck since that day at “Import formalities are in progress on your shipment” (in the United States). There have been no updates or movement since then.

I have already contacted U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) via their official online form, but I have not yet received a response.

Has anyone here ever experienced a similar situation with international mail stuck at U.S. customs?
Do you know how to speed things up?

well since the tarif war, it’s been messy. and considering the USPS is governement-funded, and there is a budget shutdown, I wonder if any mail is getting through at all these days.

this is a community forum, the chance a person in charge of that comes around are low, you might want to contact them by email or any other mean you have as well.

I’m not familiar with how the post office works, nor exactly how to become a Vendor at EW…
But:

 Are you sure you have to send papers these days?
Are you sure it’s not enough to follow the instructions here: https://developer.sketchup.com/getfeatured
and fill up the form, by clicking the “Apply To Be a Vendor” buton?!?

I’ve never gone beyond this page, but I find it hard to believe that physical papers should be sent nowadays…

When I applied to become a seller, I received an email saying: “You can send signed digital copies (scans/photos) of all forms to our support team to start the approval process. However, in order to finalize the process, we also ask that you mail a hand-signed copy of the forms to the following address: .”
I already emailed the signed form just before sending the letter, but I simply received a reply to my email saying: “Your request has been received and is being reviewed by our support team.”

I also filled out the “Supplier Classification online form.”

Okay, thank you. I’ll try to contact them by email.

ah yes, because you can fake a digital signature, but not a pen-and-ink one

Because of changes in duties on items coming from France (since August.) La Poste has frozen shipments to the U.S. until payment protocols can be worked out. The CBP service might be holding and envelopes or packages from France because of this.

Did you submit an inquiry via the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol website using the tracking number?

You did not need to use the mail.

Yes it is more expensive, but I would suggest you repeat this step (signed hardcopies) and use a private courier service such as FEDEX, DHL, or UPS. These are U.S. formed companies that now operate worldwide. (DHL founded in San Francisco was sold to a German company.)
These carriers typically route all international shipments through customs, but they use expedited clearance for document-only envelopes.

  • Clearly mark the shipment as “Documents Only”
  • Ask them in their office about any delays caused by the U.S. budget shutdown.
