Data Protection

Jumping into this post as this has been an issue since at least early 2023. @CaseyG did try to make progress back then (see this post). Unfortunately, we never got a resolution and ended up not being able to use SketchUp for Education in my school district.

While SketchUp uses Google SSO for authenticating users, they are still the end user software and are required to complete a privacy form for states that have some type of student data privacy law. At this point, SketchUp for Education is technically not allowed to be used by ANY K-12 classroom in the state of Illinois. While some educators may be ignoring the law (link), districts with IT departments that are more on top of things are preventing educators from using SketchUp for Education.

There are numerous other companies that have free software aimed at the education market that use Google for account management AND have signed privacy forms for school districts. This includes companies like Autodesk (Tinkercad) Sphero (Sphero EDU).
