I use a collection of custom materials and components that are stored in c:\program files\sketchup\sketchup 2017\
and have been using them since sketchup 2014.
all the sudden since upgrading to 2017 they are not loading. the OEM materials and components are loading from the same folder in the program directory,
i have had to move them to the %appdata%\sketchup\sketchup 2017\ folder to get them to load properly.
is there something wrong with the way this program works?
we host these materials/components on about 200 computers and its a little frustrating to have to move all these folders over to this new location
There’s nothing wrong with SketchUp. The intent is to have users avoid modifying the SketchUp Program files. If you have to uninstall and reinstall SketchUp, you would lose those custom materials. Another reason for moving the files to User/App Data/… is because Microsoft changed the security settings for the directory to prevent unauthorized manipulation of those files. Most users don’t have the knowledge to change the security settings.
A note about installing SU2017 on Windows. Make sure it is done by right clicking on the installer and selecting Run as administrator. Without that SketchUp will not be installed correctly.
