Curved shaker doors

Can anyone point me in the right direction to create curved shaker doors please? Push pull doesn’t work on curved surfaces so I’m stumped as to how to draw them.

How much detail do you need? Are you just trying to represent them or do you need to model the five parts for shop drawings?

Good question. Ideally for shop drawings because I also want to create the curved cabinets too. If there’s a work around just for client presentation that would work too for my immediate needs but they would need to be able to match the other facings eg stile width, panel inset etc.

OK, Here’s a method to represent a curved shaker door using native tools. It’s a short door just for the example. Obviously you can make it whatever height you want.


Outline the bottom face of the rail.
Push/Pull to the height of the rail.
Outline the stiles and panel.
Extrude to half the height of the door.
Copy the geometry up and flip it.
Join the halves together and erase the seam line.

Modeling the individual parts for shop drawing would be pretty straightforward if you think in terms of extruding vertically instead of horizontally.

Good deal. FWIW. here’s a method for modeling the rails, stiles, and panel for shop drawings.


Starting from the same point as before, I outlined the bottom of the stile and the rail and made each of those components. You could also outline the stub tenon and groove at this point but I didn’t.

Extrude the stile to the height of the door and the rail to the height of the rail.
Add grooves for the panel and the stub tenons. The tenons could be full length, of course or you could plan loose tenons like Dominos.

Using the Flip tool, make a copy of the stile and again to make a copy of the rail.

For the panel I just copied the face in the bottom of the groove on the rail, pasted it in place outside of the rail component and then with Push/Pull extruded it up to the bottom of the groove in the top rail.
