Creating a game piece from a top view only

I currently have pro, but my license is up so monday i will re-purchase it. In the mean time. i have a picture of a game piece that is top view only. I was wondering how to model the rest of this. I know i can trace it and get a good 2d shape, but not sure where to go with the rest. The attached image is of a startship type game piece that is printed on paper, but i would like to try and 3d print it.

thanks

There’s no way to tell how it’s supposed to look from just that top down 2D picture..
Do you have more info about how it should look like in 3D?

Sometimes you can infer aspects of the third dimension from things like shading. But that drawing just looks like flat sections that could be at any height. I agree that without more information it seems impossible to do anything but guess.

sadly, no. this is the only image the manual provided for a paper print out. I may try and laser cut it out but i was going to try and see if i could 3d print it. Watching Arron model, he always had the 3 views, but i was not given that haha. Oh well. thanks

With your mind craft one by adding your own 3D information in SketchUp.

Do you have any other information? Is it a game about Robots? Spaceships? Cyborg insects? Futuristic cars? Plastic inserts you put in your shoes? The possibilities are endless.

I’m with @Wo3Dan - based on what the game is about you can make up anything you want…

Here’s one option. It’s 3D printable.

its a large tabletop game with starships. These are the pieces you print on card stock etc for a travel version.

I did find out they look excellent when i engrave and cut them out on my laser engraver. Just got done with one.

ill still try it in SU just for fun and to learn

yup, did exactly this last night haha

One idea is to trace EACH section, extrude it and then layer them ontop of eachother. would be blocky but would have more “depth”

with the version i did last night, like yours, in a pinch, i can glue on the printed photo

im great at engineering parts, just not artsy stuff hahaha

I downloaded your picture.

I did a search on Google with the picture and found that:

I saw that these are called 2D Progenitors Fleet.

I did another Google search with 3D Progenitors Fleet and got that:

The two first hits shall interest you.

The first one will get you to Sketchfab where you will see many 3D models but the one you show doesn’t seem to be among the 10 models shown.

The second hit will take you here:

I think that the third picture from the top looks like your model.

You can use that to invent the 3rd dimension.

However, the next hits will show you 3D printed models of these spaceships, videos, etc.
