As the title says every time I import an image with the new graphics engine I get a crash. turning to the old graphics engine stops the crash and imports fine. Is this a known issue? Any idea on when it might be fixed?
Also these steps allow for an import: Opening a model with the new graphics engine - opening a second blank space and switching to old graphics engine - closing then re opening a blank sketchup model - importing the image into the blank space model - copying that image from the blank space model to the model I actually want to use it it.
I’m not having that problem with the new graphics engine. Are you still using the Nvidia Quadro P4000? It’s quite old and probably the drivers are causing this issue. Not all the hardware is supported by the new graphics engine, maybe someone from the sketchup team could give you a solution.
Thanks for the reminder I recently got a new work station. Graphics card is: NVIDIA RTX 3500 Ada Generation Laptop GPU. I recently updated the drives from Nvidia’s website.
no, but perhaps it has something non-standard in it that is causing sketchup to crash.
Try opening it in another software that deals with images and resaving it
This works. Thanks. I opened it in photoshop and reduced the size a couple of time and each time it stilled crashed. I finally opened a new photoshop doc a copied the layer across and saved it (I also reduced the size) this finally worked and no longer causes a crash.
I do still have the original file. I can’t post it here as its a logo. What’s the best way to reach out to someone on the Dev team. Can we summon one with a ritual or an @?
There are some crash when importing image issues that we have fixed, that should be in the next update. Generally there is something unusual about the image, that the old image library we used coped with ok, but the new one didn’t. In some cases we’re able to fix the image as it imports, in other cases the import will fail. But at least SketchUp won’t crash.
