Corrupted SKP file after sudden computer reset

A sudden computer reset caused my SKP file to become corrupted. When I try to open it, I get the message: “this does not appear to be a SketchUp model.”

The SKB version of the file doesn’t work either. Unfortunately, there are no auto-save files for this model in the AppData folder.

Could someone help me recover it? It’s a small file with simple 2D drawings.

Your file consists of nothing but zeroes. There is nothing to recover.

Are you using a cr acked version of SketchUp 2023?

Too bad, but thank you for checking anyway.

Why “cracked version”? I’ve always been buying the annual license through the official Polish website.

Just asking because that has been an issue for some users who have had corrupted files.

Since you have a current subscription you could update to the current version of SketchUp which has some better internals for preventing file corruption. You also have unlimited storage on Trimble Connect and you should take advantage of that. After saving your files to your internal drive you should also save to your Trimble Connect storage to create an additional backup. Each time you save the file to Trimble Connect you get an incremental save which also means you can go back to an earlier version of the file.

Thank you, I didn’t know that. I’ll update SketchUp for the future.

I managed to recover an older version of the lost file. Maybe something can be extracted from it

I had no luck with it, but it isn’t empty. Perhaps @colin could help.

There’s not much in that second file. It would probably be best and easiest to just start over while you’re waiting to see if Colin has any luck.

There is some amount of data missing from the end of that file. It’s hard to tell how much is missing, and I can’t recover anything from what is there.

I understand.

Thank you all for your help.
