Hello!
One of my files got corrupted and I don’t have the backup file (skb), is it possible to recover it?
Where were you saving the file as you were working on it? Most of the file is nothing but zeroes. Nothing to recover.
Why isn’t there a .skb file?
I was normally saving in the file folder, but the computers are on a network. The skb file does not exist because I accidentally deleted it, and because it is on a network, the file was permanently deleted.
So you were saving into a network drive? Unfortunately we’ve seen quite a number of larger files become corrupted during saves to network folder locations.
Best practice is to save the file locally (internal drive) while you are working on it and once you are finished for the day, save it and copy it to the network folder.
That’s very unfortunate. Another point in favor of saving locally is the .skb file would also be local and could probably be recovered from the Recycle Bin if you delete it. I’d suggest not only saving the file locally but also save it to your Trimble Connect storage so you have another backup copy of it in case things go pear-shaped.
So I can’t do anything to get it back?
Unfortunately, nothing will bring it back.
Get it, thanks for the help guys!
Sorry about that.
FWIW, your file was huge. If you redo it, I expect you can make it cleaner and keep the file size down considerably. That would be helpfil as you work through the model.
hello daveR, could you please check and recover my file? file is 140mb, and saved it though my old SSD…
thank you very much
You have to make the file available. I get an Access Denied message when I try to download your file.
The file is so badly corrupted it won’t open and it actually crashed SketchUp 2024. Your profile says you are using SketchUp 2022 but this was saved in SketchUp 2023.
Share the .skb backup file. Let’s see if that behaves better.
Where have you been saving the file while you were working on it? Have you also been saving a backup to Trimble Connect? Did you add a bunch of components from the 3D Warehouse? Are you using a cracked version of SketchUp?
that file already from .skb… i saved it in my SSD, and it seems to be corrupt also… and i dont have trimble connect. thank you for you time @DaveR
I’m afraid you’re out of luck.
Why? Is that because you are using a cracked version of SketchUp?
bcs i signed up using google account from the beginning.
thank you for your time
What does that mean? If you have an active subscription to SketchUp so that you can use SketchUp 2022, you will have access to Trimble Connect.
