Hello,
I’m having problems copying a model from one file to another.
In order to copy the simple trapezoid with a window from one file to another, I drew a rectangle around it with the Select tool. I pressed Cmd C to copy it into my clipboard. I opened up the complex model and press Cmd V to paste the simple trapezoid there. Then I used the Move tool to move it onto the complex model.
It worked quite well except for the fact that not everything was carried over. The black frame around the window did not show up. I had to draw a new one. The black & brown stripes in the rectangular window frame did not show up.
What is the proper way to copy & paste a model from one file to another?

a better approach might be to save the model and import it into the other as a component. then if you need to update it, you can go back to the component model, update, then refresh it in the other model.
your panel is in two parts. on one part you have the front, on the other you have a group containing the back.
I guess you only selected the front. your selection rectangle was probably not big enough to grab the back group too.
Simply select the elements you want to copy and copy them. If some didn’t get copied it’s simply because you failed to select them. You can always just group them together. You don’t need to draw any boxes that’s for sure.

Hello Glen M Stanton,
I like your idea of importing the model. I went into the attached file and made sure it was a component.
However, as you can see from the screenshot, the trapezoid has a black frame around it. Also, the rectangular frame has some yellow within it.
Both of these elements are missing when I import the model.
Please be so kind as to figure out why they are missing. Then please tell me how I can rectify this problem.
I’m working on a time-sensitive project for an architect and would really appreciate your help.
Thank you very much.

A few tricks:
1 - Create a copy of the file from which you want to copy an object just to be safe in case of a problem in upcoming operation. Open that copy for the next steps.
2 - Zoom out, pan and orbit to make sure that the selection window is large enough to grab all that you want to copy. Remember that you can zoom, pan, orbit, etc. even in the middle of any operation.
3 - After selecting the object that you want to copy, delete it to make sure that all of it is gone and thus, was correctly selected. If you still see part of it, you fail to select all of it. If this is the case, Undo and start the selection again.
4 - When convinced that everything was correctly selected, Undo the Delete to bring back the selection which is still selected then Copy.
5 - Paste in the other model.
