I seem to have the same issue as others have stated. I’ve tried to purge files and I’ve tried looking off screen for the copied picture but cannot seem to solve this issue. Its a real pain as I need to export from SU to scale a drawing in LO, but I then need to copy that scaled drawing into a pre formatted LO page. Please help!
Why are you doing that? Why don’t you just insert the file into the “pre formatted LO page” and set the scale there?
In the other cases in this thread it was either the content being copied to a different page size or it was just taking a long time for the computer to copy and then paste because the SketchUp files were morbidly obese.
Open the LO file and go to the page where you want the model viewport to appear. Then in the File menu, click Insert. Select the SketchUp file. Drag the edges of the viewport as needed and set the scale. (Make sure you aren’t created modified scenes in LO.)
Unless I not understanding you, your problem is that you cannot copy and paste when you use the EDIT from the top bar menu ?
I believe this cannot be done …not in my version of Layout anyway. V 2021.
I agree with DaveR that the best way is to open a Layout document to the page you would like (A1,A3 etc) and then to inset the SU file.
Once inserted , you can manipulate the image but you cannot use the EDIT,COPY, PASTE from the top menu bar but you have to move the image whilst pressing the Option Key (MAC) orCTRL (WIN) and your copy will be done. To create copies on different pages, go to the Pages Dialog box and click DUPLICATE.
Once the page is duplicated, you can then click the image and update the SU dialog box on the scene you want to display that you saved in SU.
The post you are answering is from three years ago, let’s hope the OP is not still stuck on the same layout problem.. I don’t know of any reason the copy and paste commands from the edit menu wouldn’t work.
I think it is file specific as it seems to work fine for other files I have inserted. I have tried renaming the SketchUp file but it still doesn’t work.
The duplicate function works from the drop down edit menu though .
Any advice…here is the link to the SU file .

So are you asking if copy and paste from the menu work on a viewport of this file imbedded in Layout? Yes, I can copy and paste a viewport of this file within a Layout doc and between layout docs, worked fine.
Couple of things of things might be happening for you. One is that Paste in Layout is by default Paste-in-place, so whatever content you had on the clipboard will be pasted at the same coordinates relative to the origin. Sometimes people paste things and don’t realize that a second copy was placed directly over the original on the page.
Or… it might just be taking a really long time to operate, or bonking out of RAM, because this file is ridiculously enormous. 320MB is a very large SketchUp file. At first glance it appears your bathroom fixtures are really bloated, this is a common piece of troublesome entourage as the manufacturers files are often created in other software and poorly converted into SketchUp files. The toilets alone (k-3639 Archer Class Five) are 64311 entities apiece and and all 19 of them are adding over 1.2 million entities to your file. Same for your sinks and faucets which collectively add another million. The plumbing fixtures alone are well over half your model polygon count. The details of these items cannot be seen at even a close up architectural scale, consider finding some low poly substitutes.
You must be having occasional trouble navigating this file in SketchUp? Consider turning profiles off in your scenes, they greatly increase the computational load on your graphics card, it’s much smoother without them. There are a lot of reversed faces in this model, but that’s not really what you asked about. In Layout, this file is very slow, because it’s big, and heaven help you if you want to vector render, but copy and paste should work.
Hi endless fix,
Yeah…just realized it was from 3 years ago !! Thanks for pointing this out but you are right and that on further examination I discovered its was the SU file I had created that was the problem. I had created a context for a project and loaded in models from the 3D warehouse to populate the site. After removing the context 3D models ( from 3D warehouse), the file when inserted into LO worked just fine. All copy and paste functions perfectly .
thanks anyway
