Components in SU are very useful/indispensable. I would find a similar feature very helpful in Layout; the ability to define any text or linework as a ‘component’ equivalent, where editing one instance of a text call out and/or linework would edit every version of copied instances of that object. Say you draw a detail that is placed identically on 2 pages of a document; if that group of linework/text could be defined as a ‘component’, then I could just go in and copy one instance of it, and know that it updates anywhere else in the document. This would be much appreciated!
I agree, I’ve requested this for over two years.
It is crazy that components are not available in LO… I must have posted a request for it 10 years ago … along with serious text handling this is one of the most serious omissions in LO. Any one ever tries to update a door symbol on a multi-floor highrise scattered 100+ times over a multiple floor plans..
I still use 2021 but when I import a DWG into LO the blocks in the DWG are converted to GROUPS, not COMPONENTS as they are in SU ! I bet this is still the same in 2025!
PS, even in 2025 you could have a huge marketing success with an Autocad Killer as suggested in this 2017 post.. would have been much more useful enhancement to SU than trying to take on rendering software heavyweights. Have a look at RAYON !
