Whenever I import a gradient into skecthup it appears to have a different shade of the gradient that I imported on the front vs the back of the gradient (see image). In my case the color on the back of the gradient (on the right) is the shade that I want. And when I try rotating the gradient so that I get the shade I want to face me (out of the screen) that does not work. How do I solve this issue
What version of SketchUp are you using? Your profile says you are using the Free Plan which is the web based hobby version. Is that correct? You posted in the Pro category. This contradicts your profile.
Share the .skp file so we can see what you are working with.
I am using Sketchup Pro 2023. And here is the file containing the gradient.
yellow light gradient.skp (52.3 KB)
Please correct your profile to show that. Among other things it tells us what tools you have at your disposal.
I think what you are seeing as you orbit around is just a difference in shading due to the exact camera angle. Here I’ve copied the face and rotated it so the back face of the one on the right is toward the camera.
Turn off ‘‘Use sun for shading’’
That goofy bug with 2023 not showing shadows or Use sun … on when opening a file caught me out. I looked and the box wasn’t ticked. Certainly unticking the box would help.
This solved it. Thank you very much.
To eliminate all effect of shading, in the Shadows tray, turn On “Use sun for shading”, turn off shadows, set the Light slider to 0% and the Dark slider to 80%.
