Collection of personal architectural projects

Hello. I have been an architect for + 10 years. I decided to take advantage of this forum to post the works in which I participated as a design architect and which were executed exclusively by SU+ LO

The Composition

The most exciting projects tend to be the ones that push an architect to think outside the box, and that are full of interesting challenges. Take designing a staircase based on an abstract painting: how creative would that be?!.

“Composition” by Félix Del Marle belongs to the abstract and constructivist artistic movement, characterized by geometric shapes, parallel lines, and overlapping colors. The artwork conveys a sense of compositional balance through the interplay of rectangles and lines of different thicknesses and directions.

Transposing to Architecture

An architect can use such compositional principles to design an exterior staircase that becomes both a sculptural and functional element of urban space.

The color palette is translated into materials and the geometric shapes are reinterpreted as steps, railings, and structural supports.

The resulting design reinterprets the painting through a contemporary lens:

This project demonstrates how abstract painting can become a source of architectural inspiration.

Turning an abstract work such as Félix Del Marle’s “Composition” into architecture was a fascinating process of converting 2D art into 3D space.

Existing situation

Objective: Restoration of a School of Arts.
Total area 2140 m2
Year: 2023
Architects: AC “Arh_Evolutio”
The purpose of developing the project documentation for the Restoration of the School of Arts is to enhance the value of the historical monument while ensuring the exploitation of the building in modern conditions, by the norms and requirements for the exploitation of public buildings.

Main facade, Color solution

Although I could discuss this fascinating project for hours, I will focus on just a few key points:

  • The modeling method
  • tags and scene organization
  • project presentation in SU+LO.

The set of tags and scenes for creating this project in a single file

I have opted to create only one 3D model, using tags to represent what is being dismantled in red and what is being rebuilt in blue. This includes not just standard tags and scenes, but also specific tags and sections for the Curic Section.

SU Model, The general proposed model

As an ecosystem for preparing LO construction documents, I used the @vbo + @curic4su method. (the SU team canceled Ruby Console for LO, the idea of this ecosystem does not work anymore because most of the plugins, depended on the LO Ruby Console)

Given that SU lacks a well-defined ecosystem for executing this type of construction document, I concluded that the VBO+ Curic was the best-developed ecosystem for this project. Thank you to @vbo @curic4su @Cyentruk and the VBO FB Group for the contribution you brought to this project.

International Architecture Competition: Rising Philharmonic

The main purpose of the competition was to design the architectural concept of the National Philharmonic Hall “Serghei Lunchevici”, which will meet the country’s need for a modern building for acoustic concerts. The concept should present an architectural design of exceptional quality and contribute to the further development of the city’s image.

It happened in 2020 and was my first participation in an international competition. Out of almost 1000 projects, the Community Competition Commission (CCP) recommended 50 proposals, including mine. It felt very nice for a first participation :hugs:

This proposal highlights the significance of the history of the land and celebrates the memory of the place of Banja Luka

Landscape architecture generates many different conditions, relationships, and interfaces

The Banja Luka Park will be brought to life with color, fragrance, and seasonal botanical displays.

Thank you all for the compliments!

Regarding this project, I don’t remember the exact configuration, but I completed this project on a low-end PC (~$300). SU ran pretty smoothly (kept the model under permanent control), but LO was challenging. However, I managed to finish a complex project on a PC that most people didn’t believe could handle.
I’m amazed when others complain that LO runs slowly with some small projects. Come on guys  , you have no right to say that LO runs slowly if I could complete this project under those conditions

Watch out – you might end up becoming a Layout apologist

I am doing my best to avoid it  .I enjoy SU+LO, but I must be honest about its shortcomings

In the first project draft in SU25, I was looking forward to trying ‘‘Photoreal Materials’’. However, SU25 doesn’t recognize the tag materials (bug), so I finished the sketch in SU24 instead.

I remembered the project sketch by Eric featuring an interesting color combination that inspired me to try it myself (Sorry for copying the style!)

Another thing that excites me is the SU Diffusion (1.4.6 v), which is much more powerful than the standard version. (image top right) I still don’t have the control I want, but I suppose it will soon be the go-to rendering tool.
