You can change the number of segments before you start drawing circles. Get the Circle tool, type 48 and hit Enter. Then click to set the center and commence to draw. It won’t take the value unless you hit Enter.
Yes exactly what I’m doing. Select the circle tool type 48 enter pull the circle to the end of the line in this cage click the mouse to set the circle, delete the line and look highlight the circle to look and its 24 segments? not sure what I’m doing wrong. this is the point yesterday that I just deleted the drawing and redid the whole thing.
Keith
To the end of the line. …
Are you seeing the whole circle selected or only half, half bring 24.
Are you clicking to set the center of the circle before typing? You’re missing some step or you’re getting something out of order because it does work to change the number of sides before starting to draw the circle.
Edit: Good point, Box. Is it the whole circle that is selected?
Just tried again same thing. I do see the whole circle because it highlights and if I delete it it deletes the whole circle. I click the center point on the line type 48 enter then draw the circle to the end point and hit my mouse so set the circle. I have tired of a few holes.
Edit:
After its drawn I can change it to 48 with no issue… maybe Ill just have to do that?
Edit:
Something is definitely wrong because I keep tying to change one hole and it goes back to 24.
I can see when it changes from 24 to 48 on the drawing and I change it in
the entity info I type the 48 where the 24 is and hit enter and it does
nothing?
Edit:
Ok so if I draw a line from side to side making my “New” hole and Arc then I can change one side to 24 but the other sticks at 12?
Attach your model and we can check.
I went ahead and redid my parts. some of the parts I had to just start from scratch because the holes where giving me issues other I was able to get the holes to change to 48 after using Box’s method. It was away quicker second time around.
So thanks again for all the help It will not be a error I make twice!

Hi Kburkk
You have to type in 48s not just 48.
I would say that after you get good at sketchup it will take you 30 minute to do the whole 8 models from scratch.
only after first click, there is no need for the s until the ‘VCB’ lable changes from ‘Sides’ to ‘Radius’…
john
Your right. I was thinking that he may be clicking and so it was not changing to 48 sides.
So as I read through this thread is there a way to change the default segment value? You know, so a circle is actually a circle instead of a stop sign? {attempted humor font needed}
No. The default is 24 sides.
I type in the number of sides 350 and get almost a circle when I print it
350 is overkill for what you are doing.
Also IF you need that level of ‘accuracy’ then use 360.
It’s best to be divisible by four for the Move/Rotate possibilities, and also 1 segment is 1° [degree]…
BUT most often you can use much smaller segmentation values - like 24/32/64/96 - without adversely affecting many follow-on processes, or rendered appearance…
I do not want a stop sign as one person said or refferred to it as ! So 360 it is from now on !
