Computer locks up when i try to make a component

It’s possible that the component window is coming up off screen. When you right-click, Make Component, does pressing Esc give you control again? In the hope that it does, do this, after choosing Make Component:
Alt-Spacebar, then let go of those keys.
Type M
Press any arrow key
Move your mouse.
All being well the missing window will appear, and you can left click to place it where you want it to be.
