Can't get the photomatch right

i have been trying to photomatch for hours but cant seem to get it right. how do i get it right?

hello, if you post your model & picture I might help you out. Looks like your vanishing points are misplaced

hi, i’m trying to match the existing then once it’s matched, show the proposed one

you posted an image of the model, can you post the model instead ? since it looks heavy, upload it on a cloud service such as wetransfer and paste the link

got it

The photo you are trying to match has artificially straightened verticals, either in software or via a tilt shift lens, you won’t be able to match it exactly

The image you are using for photomatch is not a full original photograph but rather a render (at least the people in the foreground have been photoshopped in). It has also possibly been cropped. For photomatch to work, the optical center of the photograph must lie at the midpoint of the image, so it works best with images that come straight from a camera.

agreed

even a google streetview capture is more reliable, although not recommended at all, because it’s all distorted to be 360° viewable :

by the way the building I circled in red seems pretty wrong
Find a better and real picture,
perhaps on google earth, among community pictures

If your goal is to modify the render, just make a rough photomatch, render the patch you need and adjust it in an image editor by distorting the patch

hey can you send me the file back? the one you circled isnt accurate and just for representation. sorry bout that

Hey, could you send the file back to me? The one you circled isn’t accurate and is just for illustration. Sorry about that!

oh i didnt realize you used google earth for this. does that mean it’s basically impossible to match the photo?

it’s not a real photo, as adam pointed out, the verticals have been straigthen up, you’d need a 2-points perspective photomatch tool, which doesn’t exist.
You could distort your render to restore a 3 points perspective, but it’d need many tries & adjustements

i see. thank you so much for the help.

If you are lucky, you might find a better/real photo online (using google earth/maps/search). Replace the current photo with the better version and try again?

unfortunately, that’s the photo I was given to match.

Ideally you want the image that the collage was made from - you could match that more easily.

Usually in these scenarios, I try to match the perspective only for the building I need, then Render and insert avertything in photoshop, erasing what is needed
