Hi there. I can’t install Sketchup 2021 correctly on my Thinkpad with AMD 6850u and integrated GPU. The programm works but the extension manager is blank. Tried everything I could find about this topic. Nothing helps. On my Intel Thinkpad it works after the first installation. Any ideas? Some AMD specific adjustments?
It is likely that the application installed correctly.
Extension Manager, in app 3D Warehouse, Add Location and Generate Report are all web services that are (generally by policy) only supported on the current and previous 2 versions of SketchUp.
One of the reasons is that the SketchUp builds use an embedded Chromium framework for these web dialog windows and the feature back end on the servers do not support very old versions of the Chromium framework.
You can sometimes work around this limitation in the 3D Warehouse and Extension Warehouse by accessing the websites in a standalone browser and manually downloading from them.
The drawback comes with commercial paid extensions hosted on Trimble’s Extension Warehouse. These you cannot download and install manually outside of SketchUp. (So, they may not be installable for SketchUp 2021 and older.)
The policy is meant to encourage you to update to a subscription license and use the latest version of SketchUp available.
That’s not 100% correct. Extension Manager from Sketchup 2021 runs totally normal on my Intel Thinkpad. Just the AMD has the issue.
And yes, 3D Warehouse and Extension Warehouse don’t work anymore directly from the program. This can’t be fixed.
Did you use the Right click, Run as admin installation method?
If not, find the installer.exe, select it, right click and choose Run as admin, then follow the prompts and select Repair when offered, follow the prompts, when complete reboot your Pc and check.
Yes. Tried the Admin thing 10 times…
Is the video driver up to date? I’m guessing that is an integrated GPU so maybe it can’t be independently updated?
I have this error in the debug.log when I open the manager:
[0118/154748.886:ERROR:browser_host_base.cc(716)] Invalid URL:
Its updated.
There have been reports of issues relating to AMD graphics drivers. Your AMD ThinkPad may be in this catagory.
The Copilot AI says:
The error message
0118/154748.886:ERROR:browser_host_base.cc(716)] Invalid URL:
is typically associated with Chromium-based applications (like Google Chrome or applications using the Chromium Embedded Framework). This error indicates that the application encountered a URL that it couldn’t process correctly, often because the URL is missing essential components, such as the scheme (e.g.,http://
orhttps://
)
The reference is into a CEF issue at GitHub:
Since SketchUp version before 2024 used CEF version 88, then SU2021 would have this regression bug.
