I am trying to make a basic 3D model in the online free version of sketchup, but cannot change the dimensions of anything I create (the little dimension box in the bottom right hand corner is greyed out and there’s a box above it stating that I need to upgrade to pro). Am I doing something wrong? It feels like this is the first, most basic step in any project and having to upgrade to pro to do it would mean you can’t do anything in the free version. What else might I be missing here?
It sounds like an incorrect expectation. You cannot simply select something and type in new dimensions. Depending on what it is you can use Scale, Move, or maybe Push/Pull to change the dimensions. The appropriate tool will depend on what you are resizing and the change you need to make.
If the Measurements window is available for input you just type the numbers. There is never any reason to click on the window. If the window is grayed out it isn’t available for input.
Please correct your forum profile. “online” is not an operating system. “mac” is not a graphics card.
Hi Dave, thanks for answering. I am not trying to change an existing shape’s dimensions, simply to create a shape and give it dimensions. The dimensions box appears greyed out no matter what I do when trying to create a new shape or push/pull it into the 3rd dimension. any idea waht may be the problem there?
I don’t know why that box about upgrading to Pro is appearing (I haven’t seen it myself), but it may be blocking input to SketchUp until you dismiss it.
Maybe you could share a screen capture with us. This is what I see. Note I am not moving the cursor into the Measurements window at all. If you click there you will lose the ability to set the dimensions.
You simply start the drawing operation, type the dimensions you want (w,h) and hit enter. Same for push pull, just start the push, type the distance (positive or negative) and hit enter.
I was clicking down into the box trying to set the dimensions which was setting the shape and not letting me click into the box. It helped that you both made it clear that you have to set the dimensions before pressing enter or releasing the the shape. Thanks! That’s not been made clear on any videos I’ve watched and I’m a super beginner so this is helpful
