Thank you Dave, I’m sorry it tells me that the file is too heavy to be shared. I don’t have lighter files than 35 ko and the upload function is limited
I get a crash, too, when Output Resolution for Viewports is set to High. I set it to Medium and, although slow, the export worked fine. I haven’t got the same font you are using so much of the text isn’t right. Try making that change to the output setting in Document Setup>Rendering and see what happens when you export to PDF. Make sure the LayOut file is currently saved to an internal drive location, not to the cloud or a network server. Also make sure you are saving the exported PDF to a folder on an internal drive.
I notice you have many exceedingly large raster images in the document. Example:
This image is meant to be more than 64 centimeters tall …
This is causing unneeded file bloat but doesn’t add anything useful to your project. Go through the document to edit and resize the images to match the size you have them set in the document. That will make your file behave better. Note that if you correctly size the images before you insert them into LayOut your work in LO will be easier and faster.
A huge thank you for your help! Indeed, I used our photographer’s HD images for these illustrations, so I’ll compress them and lighten the file.
I never had these export problems until last week, and it appeared suddenly even though I hadn’t yet installed SKP 2026… For this type of plan file I still need good output quality, so I’ll try to find the best settings to make the export work.
Depending on how large the image in the final, printed paper size is you can probably down size them. I try to aim for 150 pixels per inch and see how it looks when exported on High Quality. But often even less works. Be sure to toggle off JPG compression in the options when exporting. I find dedicated PDF software is better at reducing file size and maintaining detail. I’m on a Mac and use PDF expert for this.
I compressed all the images in the image editor, saved the compressed references to my disk, updated the references
Lowered the viewport and export display to Medium
Saved the folder to my C drive
It still crashes instantly. Actually, there’s maybe something related? Last week I did a series of PNG exports for a Canva presentation. Since then, the export that shows by default is PNG. Also, when I do File/Export, everything works up until the export quality selection (or even up to “do you want to replace the existing file” if a previous file exists) — but otherwise it’s the same. That’s where it crashes instantly…
You’re welcome. Were you able to export a PDF by making the adjustment I suggested?
They look like nice photographs but in this use case they are overly large. It’s a bit like trying to put 100 liters of petrol into a 50 liter tank. You only get 50 liters in the tank but you have to pay for the 50 you spilled on the ground.
What do you mean by this? Where was the folder saved before? Are you referencing images scattered around various drives? Where are your working SKP files stored?
It would seem to me that you’d want to re-link and reference files after you move folders around.
For me - all project related files live in a folder within the the folder where the LO file lives. Client logos / etc that are template related live on what would the equivalent of my ‘C’ drive (I’m on a Mac).
I mean that I’ve always had all my files on the shared Drive I work with with my colleague. This document is built from Layout templates I created that appear in “My Templates.” The images are part of the layout for all my Layout documents. They’re hosted in a dedicated file on the same drive. And that’s worked great for 3 years ^^ But for the past week it’s been crashing. Actually, I just tested on an older, lighter file (50 KB) and it crashes too…
