Can someone help me how to open an "unexpected file format"

please i tried other ways but i still cant open it

We might be able to help you if you share the SketchUp model file. We absolutely cannot help you if you don’t.

Your profile shows you have a Classic license for SketchUp 2023. That means you are using a cr acked version, right?

Here is the file. I’m confused because the issue might be caused by changing the dates from 2025 to 2020. Whenever I use expired plugins, the modified date might have been affected, as the last saved date was from 2020. lib.skp - Google Drive

So you changed the date on your computer because you are using expired extensions? Presumably you are also using a cr acked version of SketchUp I guess. That could all be involved.

I’ll see what I can do with your file, though.

Yes I’m still hoping to open the file since it’s not empty it’s still 156MB :frowning:

Your file will open in SketchUp 2025 after it removes a bad group. I get this when it opens.

Get a legal subscription for SketchUp 2025 and get legal licenses for the extensions you are using. Set your computer’s date to the correct day. Then you can open the file.

FWIW, I fixed incorrect tag usage in your model.

I also purged unused stuff. You win Hoarder of the Month with this one.

That cleanup reduced the file size by 75%.

You’ll also need to fix the exposed back faces. There should be none in your 3D model and there’s a bunch of stray edges you should delete.

Wow you were able to open it. I kept adding unnecessary stuff and forgot to clean it up, especially to purge the file.

May I ask where I can access the file?

I don’t share fixed files with those using illegal cr acked versions of SketchUp. As I told you, get a legitimate Pro or Studio subscription and install SketchUp 2025. You’ll be able to open the file yourself.

I’ve downloaded SketchUp from the official website, and I’m using SketchUp Pro 2023 with a Classic License because I’m still a student, and our school doesn’t provide licenses. I tried SketchUp Studio on a trial last October.

I used some expired plugins when I needed them, which is why I tended to change the dates

If you had a legal student license you could be using SketchUp 2025.

That’s not leagal either. Get the licenses for the extensions.
