Basic, basic question: Do I simply import a photo to begin using it as one of the surfaces?

I’m attempting to make what is more or less a box for 3D printing. Three of the sides come from a photo of a wood carving.

For now, I don’t want to do anything too sophisticated - just build a structure that can be 3D-printed. No raised surfaces, no bas-relief or anything like that.

I’m at the edge of upgrading to SketchUp Shop (from free), but I’d like to know if any of this will work before I spend the $$.

TIA
Josh

Can you show us exactly what it is you are trying to start from? A photo by itself won’t make 3D geometry that can be printed. Depending on what it is you are trying to do, you might be able to import an image into SketchUp and use it as a guide for making a 3D model which can then be exported to create the file for 3D printing.
