I am producing a banister for a staircase in Sketchup but I am having trouble getting the banister to curve round a sharp 90 degree corner smoothly whilst still descending. The follow me tool does nothing useful as it doesn’t orient the face to match at the end of the extrusion. I have used the curviloft extension to get an acceptable result, however, I would like to know if there is a way to extrude the face at the end of one piece onto the other exactly, descending and turning the corner at the same time. I have included two images, one of the starting set-up and one of the curviloft result, demonstrating how it doesn’t quite do what I want. I hope my description is easy to understand! Any advice would be great!
It would be much more helpful if you uploaded the .skp file or even a clear picture of the objective.
By the way, it really doesn’t make much sense to paint an object (especially a dark color) before you’ve finished modeling it. All it does is suck up detail and make it hard to see what you’re doing. Resist the temptation.
OK I’ll upload the .skp! Thanks! I don’t usually texture when constructing but I just decided to go and have another go at it after rendering the final project and deciding I didn’t like how it looked!
Thank you for this suggestion, I appreciate your time! I have done as you said and I am happy that the result is much better than what I had previously! I had hoped for a continuous curve, though after looking at it more I am wondering whether that is even physically possible; it looks far to tight around the corner!
