Hi!
I am using Sketchup on my iPad and I had a bad surprise this morning (monday), opening a file I worked on for the whole day of Thursday and noticing that all the last modifications I had done are missing.
I had opened the file on Friday morning and the drawing was fine and I just showed it to the clients and not had modified it, so I don’t think I clicked “discard changes”.
Also, it says the the drawing has been last modified long before I remermber saving it for the last time.
What could have happened and is there a way to find a backup file??
I hope my explanation makes sense, thanks for any kind of help!
You could go to the Trimble Connect site, find the model, and single-click to select it. Then on the right you should see a History link. Click that, and see if there is a version later than you are seeing on your iPad:
Thank you!
Ok I went on Trimble connect and…my file wasn’t there So apparently I’ve been working on a file that is physically on my iPad… I guess it’s lost?
I understand that iPads are also connected to an Apple cloud service, whatever its name. iCloud?
Yeah, but not all files. It appears mine is 100% offline and just on the iPad. How come that, if that’s the case, there’s no sign of a backup?
@francesca.pallard we are actively investigating this and other reports of a similar nature. In your case it appears that the rest of your files and work are all still available, is it only this file in which you are experiencing lost work? Another question, if you navigate to your Files app and tap the ‘On My iPad’ section on the left, do you see a ‘SketchUp’ folder with the SketchUp logo?
Finally, I know this does not help your current issue, but as a precaution for future work, saving your files to Trimble Connect will ensure that your work is saved, even if your iPad is lost or damaged.
@francesca.pallard earlier this week, we released patch 6.5.8 which addresses the underlying issue that led to the file loss and “Save Error” bug. If you haven’t already, please update to this version as soon as possible to prevent any further issues. This patch doesn’t recover lost files or work but will prevent a bug from occurring that could lead to additional file loss.
Hi!
Thanks for your reply and sorry to get back to you this late.
To answer your questions, yes, it was the only file in which I couldn’t recover my latest work.
Yes, I do see a SketchUp folder with the logo.
I am currently saving all my important work on Trimble Connect.
I guess the problem was that the file was physically on the iPad, that I might have left the drawing open, closed the iPad and when reopened it, while switching to another app, I (or my son, just wondering ) might have accidentally said “no” to save changes". As simple as that.
A pity that the app does not offer, as most of the softwares do, the possibility of recovering a backup file.
But thanks for letting me know that there’s a new update, I’ll go ahead and install it.
