Nice, was that just the scale tool or did you use a plugin?

no scaling, I made three helix with a plugin and used follow me to create the ‘wire’… it was a test for this one… [RR-MM-Feeder.mov] john

Thanks for the example. Quite a little scene you created! Would the end result of the “notch” method be the same as TDahl’s plugin method? I don’t have Photoshop, btw.

Thanks. Yup this BlenderMania guy is a bit much to listen to but he is showing a method to do what I want to do. But the Blender learning curve is quite a lot to contemplate. I’m hoping I can manage this in some workable form in SketchUp.
