Stone stretchers are quick and easy for rock and some concrete products. But for lumber, a second, longer cut is my go-to.

Fantastic modelling here. Really tip-top.

Sorry. I don’t understand.

Oh - I was joking. When I was younger the older carpenters would say, “You need to cut that longer”, or, “Go get the stretcher”, when I’d make mistakes. I’m pretty sure that at one point I was sent into a store or lumbar yard to ask for a “board stretcher”.

Nowadays people just use modern cut lengtheners.

I was confused too, thought you were using an End Grain Puller, I was once sent to get one of them along with a Peterson’s Imperial Long Weight.

Sounds good. I’ll ask around at the hardware store next time I’m there.

I always got ‘take this back and cut it longer’. I may even have pulled the "I cut it twice and it’s still too short’ line on an apprentice or two.

“Measure once. Cut twice”.

In old times in the countryside this ploy was used to keep children away when an animal was going to be slaughtered. They were sent to borrow a “pigtail straightener” from the neighbours who sent them further to the next neighbour and so on…until they came to someone who couldn’t keep a straight face.

Are you trying to say “I cut it off twice and it’s still too short.”
