All my work has disappeared AGAIN

I’m a Mac guy, so I’m not much help with oddities or troubles with Windows OS.

The only thing I can think of is accidentally invoking some keyboard shortcut without realizing it. I just accidentally put Lightroom into a mode I didn’t even know existed let alone how. (I finally found it on a submenu)

It’s also odd for layers to disappear. Even if you accidentally delete everything on the layer, it won’t go away until you specifically ask to purge unused.

Maybe you just opened the SKB file rather than the SKP file.

In SketchUp for Windows OS…

Auto-Save files and Backup files are saved in the directory where the original .skp file exists.

@pashbyltd

• The auto-save file name will be a combination of the word “AutoSave” with the original filename.
Example: AutoSave_hotel.skp

• A backup file name is the same as the original file with the extension .skb in place of .skp
Example: hotel.skb

Consider changing your file and folder views to reveal file extensions and other pertinent details that help you understand what you’re looking at.

Grouping files by type will help you find what you’re looking for.

Are you saving in the program folder? You should set up your projects under an entirely separate drive with individual sub folders for each project and multiple sub folders for different types of files. It does sound like you are opening back up files.

As an example, I have a mapped a drive folder for all my projects. In that folder are subfolders by year. In those subfolders are project folders for each year. In each project folder are separate folders for Client, Sketchup, Layout, Topo,…etc. Getting organized is half the battle, but once you do you can access the exact file you need without issues like this. This is definitely not a software problem unfortunately.

Yeah getting organised is half the battle. im just lost to how something that was saved because i shut computer down left it overnight then booted up again in the morning and opened the file an its all there, shut down went to work came back for some measurements and boom gone, no deleting anything on my part just saving

Have you got .skb set to open in sketchup?
These are backup files that shouldn’t open automatically in SU and you may be inadvertently opening a backup rather than the working file.

Edit:I’m repeating what others have already said, haven’t fully read the thread.

The files are skp

Which extensions do you have installed?

I have no idea mate, what should i have installed

None, but if perhaps you had some of them installed it could be a possibility that some extension is causing trouble upon save.
