Aha! I didn’t see the video and did not know I had to shift twice. I will try again later, but the video suggests this should work perfectly. I now also get why my “clearing geo location” clears my north and your way gives the option to uncheck that. Great stuff, thank you!
I’m aware that double-shift access can be confusing . I’ll add a clearer indication in the tool. But this is a temporary workaround feature added to an existing tool, assuming that map rotation will soon be available natively in SU.
To facilitate access, I’ve added a direct access button to the “Rotate Geolocation Map” tool in the “Face Orientation Checker” toolbar:
.
This is available from version 0.702.1 of the Wisext tools.
I see that Add Location has a new version 1.5.9 but no map rotation functionality yet (or maybe I haven’t seen it). My workaround tool may still be useful.
Hi, cool extension - Having an issue that I hope you may be able to help me with - when I get to the step where I re-geolocate my model, that process overwrites the north offset that your plugin had adjusted and I’m back to square one.
I notice that version 1.5.9 of Add Location no longer allows you to place the map according to the north direction defined in the model (whether by my extension or the Solar North tool, it doesn’t matter). Add Location modifies the model’s north so that it follows the Y axis. This was not the case in previous versions.
@daniel_pidcock : is it deliberate to remove this option too?
Thanks @Wisext for the extension!
Like @pete3, I’m having difficulty with the newly defined north going back to its default when I re-geolocate the model. I am using the most up to date versions of SU and the extensions. I hope the issue can get resolved soon.
Thanks Dan for the information. If the feature comes back in a future version, please let us know.
Like others, I am also having the same issue. Thanks @daniel_pidcock for the update. Here is to hoping the rotate north feature comes soon.
Hi, any update on this feature
i have a very large and detailed model, and i need to do sun study
currently the model is off from the true north
i have it attached to TM, and objects and additions made to it for rendering purposes,
as a result rotating the model is not an option for me
look forward to work arounds that do not involve touching the model its self
Good news, we launched it on Thursday, so you should see an edit option again during the geolocation step.
If you do see any issues you can report through support, or in a new forum thread tagged with geolocation: Topics tagged geolocation
Dan
The way we have implemented it does involve rotation of the model and axis.
It would be useful to better understand why are you unable to rotate the model in case this is also limiting for other users.
