To be completely clear, @catamountain is correct. SketchUp inherits ALL mouse input from the Operating System and we do not have any âdriversâ in the software which we can or do modify to work with different input devices. We are wholly at the mercy of the drivers for a device by that manufacturer.
We do our best to get beta access for active developers so they can update their drivers if necessary for use with SketchUp and typically they ONLY need to make adjustments to plugins for the new version of SketchUp. 3DConnexion is unique in this regard because they have both a OS driver and a plugin for SketchUp which references hard coded paths, those change between versions. If you use 3D Connexion devices you should always go to them first to see if there are newer drivers available. If youâre considering upgrading to the latest version of SketchUp (immediately after itâs released) and you depend on your 3D Connexion device then again, check with their site to be sure itâs compatible.
In their defense, they arenât a âSketchUp Input Deviceâ company and they may not always be able to update concurrent with our release. Cut them some slack and just report the issues in a calm, clear tone. Telling us and them this is âunacceptableâ is really helping no one. Caveat Emptor and all that when it comes to new versions of software and hardware.
@jody, thanks for your reply. Just to clarify, I am both calm and clear, and never used the word âunacceptableâ just that the only way I managed to make it have any effect meant it wasnât usable (hence the word âunusableâ). Iâm a software developer myself so I understand the issues.
@catamountain, thank you, Iâve followed that procedure but Iâll now contact 3dconnexion as it doesnât appear to work for me.
@jasonmowbray, well now I feel silly. I wasnât actually calling you out, there had been a comment way earlier in the thread about the disappointment that SketchUp was released without support and wanted to be clear that there is more to it than a simple âsketchup_works_with_3dconnexion=1â setting to stick in the code.
Navigate to the menu in: Sketchup > Preferences > Extensions is 3DxSketchUp in there and selected?
Also⌠are you running multi monitor mode? I had that issue when sketchup wasnât on the primary display device, on my MBP this is the laptop screen, when I close the lid one of the other screens becomes primary and when I run sketchup in that window it works⌠Kinda hokey but it worksâŚ
@jody No worries, understood
@jaws Yes, it is there, v1.0.0.0. No Iâm not using multi monitor, unfortunately. Thanks for your reply!
Iâve raised a support request with 3D connexion and will report back if we managed to fix it.
Running with identical hardware, but Windows 7 x64 (Bootcamp), works fine, FYI.
Im having the same problem, did you find an answer?
Yes, downloaded new Connexion Driver for Mac OS X. Driver on Connexion Site

Sorry, this was for a problem that gadget2020 was having, where the twist, tilt is really sluggish compared with the push/pull, lift and slide.
Kind of - the advanced settings I have to set the top three to âminimumâ sensitivity and the bottom three to the âmaximumâ sensitivity.
Itâs usable now, but kinna jerky now & again.
Thanks, Iâm doing the same thing. Still hoping to find a solution though as its far from perfect.
I recently purchased (and returned) the 3DConnexion Space Navigator. I could get it to work on their training tools but could never get it to work in Sketchup 2015. After over 2 days of trying and working with the 3D tech folks I decided it just wasnât worth it. I hope that someone else has better luck.
I was not able to work with my 3dConnection Space navigator for notebook + Last driver (04.03.2015 version 10.2.3) and Sketchup 15.3.331
I installed previous version of 3dConnection driver (10.2.2) (from here:3Dconnexion France - SpaceMouse, CadMouse, Keyboard Pro, pilotes) and IT WORKS WELL.
Good luck !
Had the same problem, found I was using old 3D Connection version 3.
Installed latest version 10.2.3 and all is ok, my SpaceExplorer works well.
Had to uninstall old 3D Connection software first though, latest version would not install over the old.
