High school drafting design teacher here. My students are using SketchUp For Schools across multiple devices, browsers, and operating systems. I see the same problem on Mac and PC, in Edge and Chrome. I can’t figure out what the common thread is. What happens is as follows:
Student opens 3D warehouse
Student types model name (such as “chair”)
Flashes some kind of result, but quickly goes back to white
If different devices and OS are affected, it might come from your network security parameters.
SketchUp needs ports 80, 8080 and 443 to be opened so that every online feature can work.
See with your network manager if he/she can add exception or change rules
I’ll second that. could also be in the security parameters of your student’s machines.
are they using their own ? or are the computers the school’s ones ?
you’re using sketchup for school, have you tried both inside the webapp and on the independent website https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/ ?
We are a Microsoft School, so we are not able to access it with Google Authentication.
We can try Firefox, but historically we haven’t had a lot of success.
We checked the parameters on an alternate wifi point we have access to changing the ports and we did not have any success.
Will try the browser-direct version of 3D warehouse. Thanks again and keep us posted!
Can confirm we can access 3D Warehouse from the browser-direct version, but what a pain to download every model and insert it manually. Any word on a possible fix?
Glad to hear it. Thank you so much for your prompt action!
As for Firefox, today we tried Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari (just to be sure - it never works with 3D Warehouse), Opera, and even DuckDuckGo. Tragically, NOT ONE of them worked Although I should mention that there are days we can rotate through the different browsers and get ONE of them to work.
Hey! Quick update, I ran some tests on the fix today and looks like the next update will get things working again. I’m imagining it will go into production by the middle of next week. I will be at AIA in Boston, but I will look for the update in the evening.
