Xray Keyboard Shortcut

Been using Sketchup since ‘08 and on a classic license personally but employer has opted for Studio license on work laptop so getting use to new format(s).

I have always had a keyboard shortcut of X assigned to Xray and set that up today 2025 and it worked one and will no longer work. I have removed the shortcut and re-set it up a couple times and it will never work. Tried Ctr-X and some others. Any input?

2025 seems quite glitchy in a lot of ways in comparison but getting use to it.

Thanks

First, this has nothing to do with the subscription type.

I set it up for X-ray and then saved the file I was working in, quit SketchUp and restarted it. The keyboard shortcut works as expected. This implies that the file that saves that shortcut is not getting updated after you’ve setup the shortcut. Try doing the same thing I did and save a file after setting the shortcuts. If it still doesn’t work, I would suspect that Windows hasn’t given SketchUp permission to write the file. This is commonly due to incorrect installation. To ensure SketchUp is correctly installed, close it and LayOut. Find the downloaded installer in your Downloads folder. Right click on it, choose Run as administrator, and then choose the Repair option. After it completes, do a cold reboot of your machine and try again. Make sure you are signed into Windows with you normal user account.

10-4 Thanks. Sketchup was installed directly via the purchase process (automatic) so if it was incorrectly installed it is in that automated process. Will run the repair process here shortly. Thanks again.

As an aside is there a specific reason why you wouldnt recommend X for Xray? I have always had it shortcut to X or Y. I didnt see any difference between having G for component, C circle, etc..

X is used for creating arrays with Move and Rotate if you don’t have an extended keyboard. If you try to enter Xn for the number of copies, the X will activate X-ray instead. Of course you can use nX. Many of my students over the last 20 years have preferred Xn.

or just use *

it’s on all keyboards, extended or not. * and / .
(I never liked using x as a multiplier because in maths, you also often need an x as the unknown variable)

Yes. I use * instead of X on my extended keyboard.but on an English keyboard the * is Shift+8 which, on my laptop I find more cumbersome to hit that X.

I recently bought a number keypad to use with my laptop specifically to have the * and / in an easier place to hit.

I find X-ray more useful than the default K style shortcut, I replaced it on the preferences.
