Hello.
My project is being saved under the wrong file type. I am using SketchUp 2025, but the file saves as a SketchUp 2022 type. This version has already been removed from my computer. How can this be?
Hello, what makes you think it saves as 2022 ?
Since 2024 it is not possible to save as previous version, unless you installed a dedicated extension.
Since 2021 version every SketchUp files are compatible
SketchUp saves your model using the versionless .skp format. The .skp format is both forward and backward compatible with any supported version of SketchUp.
Technically it is a little more complicated…, e.g. it still can be determined from the file in witch version the model is saved.
Also if you are opening in SketchUp version that is different from the file version, you will get the corresponding message, regardless to this message, it is safe to continue to open.
Edit:
My “beer buddy” posted first, but since I’ve already written it, maybe you’ll find useful info in my post too…
how / where do you get this information exactly ?
dude, where’s your beer ?
Please stop flooding the forum with the same message. We are all see it independently to whom you are answering.
The image means that according to the operating system the skp file is assigned to SU2022. It has nothing to do with the real version.
If you want to see it differently, run the SU2025 installer (right click and Run as administrator, then chose Repair) which assigns the .skp to SU2025.
This doesn’t mean it is saved in 2022 version, it means SketchUp 2022 still is the default app used to open it
Thank you for your charming command. . Ofcourse al already run the repair but there is no change in “type”
Have you tried uninstalling SketchUp 2022?
Does it actually make any difference in the way you use your SketchUp files in SketchUp 2025? The file type is the same whether Windows calls it SketchUp 2022 or SketchUp 2025. SketchUp 2025 doesn’t care about that.
I find this hard to believe if you made reinstallation as told, Run as administrator, and restarts a computer.
