I am trying to use a small number of textures that I had in SU23; trying to bring them into SU24. I carefully copied them into my SU 24/Materials folder but they’re not appearing under My Textures as they used to in SU23. It seems that SU24 and all the online SU guidance now uses colour/textures/materials as interchangeable terms. Can anyone help please?
Which materials folder? Can you show a screenshot from Finder showing this folder and the content?
It’s this one, don’t know if this gives you enough information. I have also tried importing them as files (as textures not images) and they are SKP files which are not listed as supported. When I import jpegs I can use them as textures but I’m still not seeing a ‘My Textures’ option in the Colours folder. Thanks!
So presumably this is in ~/Library/Application Support/SketchUp/SketchUp 2024. And what do the files look like inside the Materials folder? Are they in a sub-folder?
Material files should be .skm not .skp and so they are not SketchUp model files that SketchUp can open.
Show the dropdown list for the materials after clicking on the brick button at the top of the Colors panel.
As @DaveR suggested, your personal materials collections must be in folders within the Materials folder shown in your image of Finder. If you copied the skm files directly into Materials, they won’t show up in the Materials (aka “Colors”) window.
Hi Dave. Yes they are in the file string as you say. And there was
no subfolder inside the Materials one. Yes they are .skm, sorry not skp, but as I say I can’t import them as textures.
I would expect to see ‘My Textures’ in the dropdown list as you say, but it’s not there. I have put them in a subfolder inside 'Materials as suggested by @slbaumgartner and then closed down SU and restarted but still not there.
I’m wondering if you may be looking in the wrong place. Try this: open SketchUp settings, choose the Files item, and in that panel at the right hand end of the Materials row you should see an icon of a folder. Click that, and it will open a Finder window on the folder where SketchUp is looking for your personal Materials collections. If it isn’t the one you showed in your screenshot, that is the cause of what you are seeing. Put your collection subfolders there instead.
Thanks so much, I can access them now. I had to create a subfolder inside Materials and then the name of that folder is what shows up in the dropdown box - I had called it something different from "my textures’ which is why I couldn’t find it. Thanks @DaveR and @slbaumgartner for your help.
