When will I be able to publish a new release of my extension?

Hi Sketchup Team,

Since 11/12/2019 extension update a “locked” due to preparing a new Extension Warehouse. Good news, but the message says that it will be done in 12/01/2019 week.

This week is over and nothing has changed :frowning:

I would like to release a new version on my extension, but it’s currently impossible.
Do you have any idea when this will be possible ?

Thank you for your answer,
Regards.

I have one or two extensions myself I’d like to get out there.

There was a delay. Let’s see if @ChrisFullmer can give an update.

We found a couple issues and postponed the launch one week. Sorry for the lack of communication. We’re looking good for a Wednesday launch.

That’s good! SketchUp basecamp Benalux is on the day after!

I’m hoping the new system will allow for more rapid releases. I tend to update my plugins quite often and it would be nice to have the ones in the warehouse up-to-date and in sync with what is on my website.

Even though Sketchucation’s plugin library is uncurated, it is much easier to fire off updates.

‘Uncurated’ is perhaps unfair…
The SketchUcation PluginStore is self-policing - only its approved contributors can add or edit content.
And as such you are trusted to be good-people in your updates.
Just as if you publish on your own web-site.
The separate ‘official signing’ of ALL RBZ files is somewhat academic, since it’s possible to add some malicious content post-signing - as I have pointed out elsewhere, many times before, resulting in a tightening of protocols, but no absolute guarantee.
One day all developers may be forced to use EWH - perhaps then with some fees involved ?
However, since that would prevent any simple day-to-day Ruby use ‘in house’ I consider that a step too far…:anguished:

I think uncurated is a quite accurate description, for both good and bad.

The adjective ‘uncurated’ implies a lack of management, administration or organization.
Which I suggest are wrong when applied to SketchUcation PluginStore entries.
They are managed, administered and organized.

The responsibility for making a good tool or update resides with the approved author.

If you mean ‘uncensored’ it could be nearer the mark, but even then there are hoops to go through before becoming an approved poster in the PluginStore.

If there are complaints about a particular entry it can be immediately suspended, pending review - this has happened very rarely. Authors are usually gutted to find their update is faulty and immediately seek to fix things…

Wider complaints about an author’s work can attract similar sanctions - but I don’t think this has ever happened.

I don’t mean to use the term “uncurated” in any sort of derogatory sense. I actually prefer the system employed by SketchUcation. I can get in at any time and release a new update immediately. This type of systems works best for me.

I think the term uncensored is silly in this context. Just because the Extension Warehouse doesn’t allow anything the cat dragged in doesn’t make it censored.

Let’s just say SketchUcation PluginStore has vetted listings, and Extension Warehouse has fully vetted listings?

not really, there are lot’s of extensions there that don’t seem to be vetted at all…

and there’s no removal of abandoned content…

I think the peer review, [ name’n’shame] system at SketchUcation weeds out or ‘repairs’ many of these…

Looks like the Extension warehouse is now down since yesterday, any ETA on when it will be back up?

I’ve got some new updates to the wall plugin that I would like to get released however the signing page is also disabled during this update process.

I think the previous notice said a possible downtime of approximately 48 hours.

Chris just posted an update:

https://forums.sketchup.com/t/update-extension-warehouse-planned-maintenenace-and-downtime-were-starting-to-come-back-online/110723/2

He says that purchasing is disabled for the moment, and I got the impression that developer updating will come after that. Should all be good before the end of today I think.

@colin, @ChrisFullmer, Nice to see the Extension Warehouse back again.

But …

  • The avatar image of the store L’Air du Bois is “my face” (and not the platform logo), and I can’t find where to change it
  • The “user counter” of each extension has disappear ? View only ?
  • The import of my long description was truncated.
  • Impossible to put functional links in description ?
  • The description text has no formatting option anymore ?
  • The short description is … very short

Else, the UI is quite nicer !

The avatar is the user’s Trimble account avatar. You may not believe it, but currently you have to go to 3D Warehouse → User menu→ Edit Profile→ Change Picture (click on the avatar).
If you want your professional store not to use the same avatar as your 3D Warehouse models (maybe personal account), it makes more sense to have different accounts/identities for professional (or company) and personal. If this is important you could have to contact the EWH team directly to see whether it is possible to transfer content to a new account.

I thought they had contacted developers in advance, so they can make adjustments.

For not overwhelming users, the description is designed to be now more like a concise, focussed promotion text. It seems the limit is 1500 characters. Also, the summary text (1 line) is what is displayed in the search results and must fit in the limited space. In my summaries, I removed verbs and redundant words that are clear from the context.

So you could for example change:
“Cut list and cutting diagram generator from Sketchup model” → “Generate cut lists and diagrams”

The strange thing is that “L’Air du Bois” account was (in the previous EWH) a separated account from my private one …

The easiest way to change user parameters is here, no ?

[…] It seems the limit is 1500 characters.

In the form it’s write 1043/5000 above the description field. I suppose that 5000 is the max number of characters in the description ?

It could, but it remove important informations. For exemple, it dosen’t work without SU
