When extruding my floor plan, adjoining walls are one continuous face instead of separated

I’ve drawn a floor plan, however when I extrude it, it seems like the walls for any given room are considered one continuous face, instead of separate faces (with one or two exceptions). This holds true for both the inside and outside corners.

I can fix this by manually drawing in lines where the corners should be, but I’m more curious to know the cause so I can fix it properly and avoid it moving forward.

Any idea what I’ve done wrong? TIA

Looks like you have welded the edges before extruding.
Use the soften smooth to quickly toggle the joining edges.

Look for the soften buttons by clicking the glasses icon on the right toolbar.
