What Rhino has done with Metal to improve Mac performance in Rhino 8:

I would love to see this kind of matrix created for a Sketchup to Layout workflow of a small project. Anyone at Trimble interested? Can layout be improved through optimizing the Metal display pipeline? Also, Adobe InDesign has accomplished this too, I believe. Adobe InDesign GPU Performance feature enhancements

I’d imagine they have Built a new render engine because Apple stopped supporting OpenGL and pulled out of the Vulkan group, so it’s becoming problematic.

Hopefully we shall see SketchUp use a new renderer with DirectX and Metal in the near future.

yeah, there have been a few messages here on the dev forum about experiences in leaving openGL, so I’d say it’s coming, can’t say when, nor how they’ll do it. dual version, directX and metal ? will they port one to the other ?

the future will tell.

Render Engine and graphics API are separate things. It’s like Xbox and Playstation - they both play the same games made by the same companies, but each company has to make their games renderer tap into graphics APIs each platform uses.
