Typically that happens because at some point between picking the Circle tool and starting to draw, you hit 3, Enter. Get the Circle tool and type 24 and hit Enter. Can you draw a circle after that?

Hi, my name is Colby.

I am an ARCHITECTURAL STUDENT about to graduate.
I love using SketchUp for personal projects and in school.

ADVANCED Sketchup user.

I love the simplicity of input, yet the great amount of detail that can be accomplished in SketchUp models. The software is super fun, simple, yet greatly advanced and is saves SO MUCH TIME vs other design softwares architects often use.

I am trying to push the PARAMETRIC and ARCHITECTURAL and FABRICATION aspects of SketchUp as much as I can and am trying to understand ways to get from complex 3d modeling to real world production results.

Hello, my name is Rick. I am a retired CIO with roughly 40 years of programming experience. I use SKU for my furniture designs in my main hobby - woodworking. I use SKU because it is easier than AutoCAD 3D. I operate on multiple computers but my primary computer is a large HP professional workstation with 196GB of RAM, 16 cores and 32TB of disk with three 24 inch monitors. O/S is Windows 7 Enterprise. I am currently using SKU 2017. I would consider myself an Intermediate user with about 5-1/2 years experience. I started with SKU 8.

Hello everyone,
I first looked at Sketchup when it first came out and passed. Since graduating college, I have worked in product research and development using more advanced 3D modelers for CAE/CAD/CAM. However prior to college, I helped design and install solar hot water heaters, solar thermal systems, and wood fired boilers. In doing so, it became apparent that passive solar was the way to go for any new building (residential or commercial). Letting the building be its own solar collector in the winter and shading device in the summer, while taking advantages of site resources is by far the most cost effective, energy efficient, natural way to provide comfort. At the time all the drawings were on paper and the calculations were done by hand. EnergyPlus became available as a way to automate the calculations, now sketchup has been greatly improved, and I am retired to pursue my passions. I love Building Energy Modeling with the goal to employ passive solar techniques for comfort and lighting. I’m a PC kinda guy as that what has been used for all the CAE/CAD/CAM work I’ve done (with a tiny bit of Unix mixed in). I’ll need your help in changing paradigms!

The photo is 70+ years old, but I am still the same tinkerer only upgraded from Erector Sets.

My profession for most of my life has been ‘programmer’. I am now semi retired, working at my own company and servicing my software installed in our few remaining customer sites.

I use Sketchup for my tinkering - everything from custom designed desks to garden sheds. My #1 hobby is woodworking.

I use Sketchup because it helps me visualize what I am designing. I could not have completed my latest project - a garden shed - without first building it in Sketchup:

I am now using Sketchup to design a pantograph for use in my workshop. I consider myself a beginner, even though I have used Sketchup many times. I have not been to 3DBaseCamp.

Alas, a Ferrari does not appear to be in my future. But I do have a laptop setup with docking station, external hard drives, and monitor. Runs Win 10 Pro (alas, I wish I could use my old XP Pro system - the most reliable and friendly system in my house).

George,

We’re here and happy to help. With that being said, it’s a good idea for you to prep a bit before asking questions. Here’s what I suggest:

  • Learn the basics of using the forum software (Discourse). You can find it in this forum thread
  • Familiarize yourself with our forum’s Community Guidelines
  • When you need to ask a question, try a search FIRST to see if it’s already been answered!
  • When you decide to ask your question, please be as specific as possible, and if it involves a specific model you are working on, please attach your model to the forum post! Most times, verbal descriptions omit enough detail that you will be asked to upload your model. By uploading the model in your original post, you’ll eliminate this back and forth. If your question is a general question about SketchUp’s (or Layout’s) user interface, upload a screen capture that illustrates the problem (if possible). Here’s the button you press (highlighted in yellow) to upload while you are composing a forum post or reply:
  • If something you read prompts you to ask a non-related, tangential question, start a new thread! Or use the “reply as a new topic” feature which is (unfortunately) fairly well hidden under the time stamp on a forum post:

Use SketchUp personally, as the first step to 3d printing small items
I use it because it came with the printer - and has good reviews
Not yet very proficient, as I spent a lifetime thinking in 3d on a 2d drawing board.
Favourite Emoji? - I hate them.
Long walks on the beach with the dog would be good - but our local council bans them

LazyBonesLocker here, or you can call me Al.
Currently a student, but use SketchUp for personal use.
I started using Google SketchUp back in middle school, when I thought making 3D mazes was the funnest thing ever. Now I mostly use it for room layouts or interior design ideas.
Only use SketchUp on my Windows desktop, since it’s been RAM upgraded.
Favorite emoji? The cake one
Not a big fan of the beach… but I enjoy long walks in the forest.

Hey all, I’m new here and my name is Russ.
I’m a retired electronic engineer. Before that I was a Tool/Die maker. And, I’ve always enjoyed woodworking. And when time permits, (yeah, retired doesn’t necessarily mean you get to do what ever you want) I like to dabble in all of them. The best scenario is combining all the disciplines into one project.
As an engineer, I have worked both hardware and software. I first saw Sketchup when the versions were numbered. (Low numbers at that) I first used Sketchup to visualize the mechanical parts of our electrical design. I’m still using it today!
I’m using the latest version of Sketchup Make on a 27 In. iMac.
I’ve introduced several of my friends to Sketchup and they love it. Plus it keeps me sharp helping them up to speed. We’re all learning and loving it!

Hi! I’m Dana Jo. I’m a Sketchup beginner and using (just) Layout at the moment. I’m running it on a fairly basic Dell Laptop, and using it to draw quilts and quilt pieces/elements for pattern writing. I hope to quickly learn what I need to know for these purposes!

Hello everyone!..
Well, since you asked, I’m from Montreal, 62 years old, and have been noodling with Sketchup for 3-4 years. After failing a couple of times, I hunkered down and finally began to make enough progress to keep going, mainly using online tutorials. I started by modelling my abode, the furniture therein, and some of the equipment I use for work (I’m a key, rigging and/or dolly grip on film sets), so as to design some of my own concepts to help in the fabrication process. I also like to reproduce 1920’s to 40’s office equipment such as desk fans and phones. I want to evolve to more “organic” shapes, such as sailing ships, cars and the like.
Up to now, I’ve been doing most of my work using Sketchup 8, until running into more and more problems due to the fact that I couldn’t install and use plug-ins.
I went on to Sketchup Make 2017, and have recently entered the wonderful world of plug-ins with Shape Bender and Pipe Along Path. I’m using a 27" Mac running Yosemite (10.10.5). My graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M 1024 MB.
I’m far from proficient with the use of computers, having bought my first in 2000, when I was 45.
I don’t use (or even like) emojis…
