Using SketchUp for Schools as an individual (not affiliated with a school)

My 10 year old son loves 3D modeling and I’d like to find him a structured (and “safe”) program of sorts that he could follow. It seems like SketchUp for Schools is basically exactly what I’m looking for…but his school isn’t associated with SketchUp. He also doesn’t have a school email address (he’s just finishing 4th grade).

Does anyone have any suggestions on how he could utilize some kind of program like this? We’re basically looking for structured / scaffolded tutorials/videos etc. that would walk him through the program. FWIW I’m a paid SketchUp Pro user. He doesnt currently have his own account. I’d be open to him using my account, though I would prefer his own account.

I’m not super concerned about “Minor protections” - I just dont think theres much risk of “exposure” in a forum/topic like this - but would be nice to have it vetted and controlled for minors.

I suppose an alternative would be to just find some good YouTube tutorials, if anyone had any suggestions there.

Thank you!

You can start eg. here:
Getting Started with SketchUp for Web
Trimble Learn
SketchUp - YouTube

The free web version of Sketchup can be accessed via link:
https://app.sketchup.com

You need to create a free Trimble Id to use.

I’d prefer him to use the SketchUp Pro, since its not web based and is more powerful/convenient in general. Is there an equivalent for Pro?

SketchUp for Schools is web based. Pro offers the desktop version as well as a web based version.

Thats good to know. I’d still rather have him learn to use Pro, just from my experience with the Free (web-based only) version, its way clunkier to use (mainly related to keyboard shortcuts).

Is there a similar tutorial (not necessarily for schools/minors) for Pro?

Maybe you could upgrade your SketchUp Go and just let him use your pro license?

There are lots of tutorials for Pro…

Here is one:

There is also tons of stuff on YouTube, etc.
