Trying to create a channel back along a curved surface

Hi, just started trying to mess around with sketch up a few days ago and I find myself at an impasse. I’ve looked and looked and finally admitted defeat.
Can someone be kind enough as to explain to me how I can create this back
along this curved path easily?

I tried to attach more than one SS but it wouldn’t let me

Thank you in advance ;-;

Can I copy this object around this path for example? ;-;

Yes, that’s probably the easiest route, You can do that manually with Move and Rotate or in the desktop version, use an extension like PathCopy from the Extension Warehouse.

Make sure the object is a component or group so the copies don’t merge while you are in the process of copying it.

Would this kind of thing still happen with pathcopy if I upgraded to the pro version?

Yes. PathCopy won’t modify the components. You can edit the components after you’ve placed them and scale the backs to make them wider.

There are other extensions like Shape Bender and Fredo6’s Fredoscale that could take a straight version of the construction and bend it to the path.

perhaps you could use a vertical face to copy along path instead in order to use them to cut your seat equally by intersecting, then round corners
but you’d need to have a rounded seat first, using the follow me tool

Another thought would be to create a solid cutter in the shape of the groove between the sections and use Subtract from the Solid Tools to cut the grooves in a solid extrusion.

This is a quick example. I left some of the cutters to show them in place. They were made with Follow Me and the profile at the lower left.
