Transfer models from PC to IPad

Is there any way to transfer models from my PC to my IPad?

yes, assuming you’re using the same trimble account.

on your pc, you can save your files to trimble connect (check file / trimble connect). it makes them available on all your devices using your account. same way around from ipad to pc

you can choose to work using trimble connect, or just use it to transfer / store files.

Trimble connect is the fastest and cleanest and best way to manage models across desktop and ipad. However you can transfer directly, send the .skp as a file, or airdrop or email it. Then open it on the ipad from within the app.

Thank you for your help. As a trial, I did save a file to Tremble Connect. I go to the Home Screen on my IPad and select the cloud. I can see the file there but I can’t open it. Here’s a pic . Thanks for your help in advance.

Go into a blank model/ new model and hit the hamburger lines in the upper left.

Then choose import, and at the bottom of the import window touch “Trimble Connect”.

can you get to them that way? Or are they still greyed out?

Thanks for the suggestion. I did what you instructed. Opened a blank page, went to imports then to trimble connect. My models are listed there but when I select to open nothing happens.

I’ve tried “saving to Trimble Connect” as well as “save a copy to Trimble connect”, each loads the file to my IPad but it shows “0 kb” and will not open.

You’re seeing the Project container, it’s merely a top folder for the project. Inside should be the SketchUp files.(with extension .skp) but only if you successfully saved the file in it, of course…

Please forgive my ignorance but, as I said in my previous post, I tried to save my file to Trimble Connect in two different ways. All saved files show up on my IPad. Can you explain how to open files inside the project container? It appears that I’m unable to open any saved files so it might not be a Trimble thing. I will check with Apple while I await your guidance.

As a follow up, I did contact Apple support and we were able to open files saved to my IPad. It appears that I cannot open ANY imported files in the Sketchup ap. If, on the home page, I select “open from”, no matter which option I select, ie, “downloads”, “On my IPad” or “iCloud Drive”, when selected, it does populate files, they appear to be “greyed out” and I cannot open.

Huh, @JohnD1115 lets back up here for a moment. Start a new file ON YOUR IPAD, model a somthing, then hit the save button, in the top menu, when the save dialogue pops up choose the Trimble Connect option at the top, choose a project folder in the middle (or make a new project, all files should have a project folder) and give it a name at the bottom then save. Now go home (the top option in the hamburger menu at the top left) from there choose the cloud option (second down from the top on the left) this should open trimble connect and you shoud see the file you just saved? So far so good, or not? Can you open it?

Next go to your desktop and launch Trimble connect from within SketchUp. (Are you really using SketchUp 23 for desktop? Thats quite outdated and might be a source of the problem, since you must have an active subscription to be using desktop at all you should update to the latest version or update your forum profile if you already have). You can launch TC in a web page and see whats there or choose to “open model” from TC in the File menu. Either way you should see a list of your files and the thing you just saved on your ipad should be present? Lets make sure this connection is working and that you don’t actually have two Trimble ID’s going here. Can you open the ipad file on your desktop?

I am running Sketchup 26. I did launch Trimble Connect and it did come up with the files I saved on my PC. Looks identical to what appears on my IPad. When I select a file to open I get the screen attached.

Well that’s not quite the procedure I outlined. But lets try it your way, what you are showing is that you have opened the project folder called Kayce and Seth’s island and inside that folder is an untitled SketchUp file, you are seeing these files in an online browser showing the file explorer.

Instead, open your SketchUp desktop app, go to File>Trimble Connect> and choose Open Model or Open from Trimble Connect. Can you open this model on your desktop?

I did exactly as you directed in your last paragraph. Went to my desktop File>Trimble Connect>Open from Trimble Connect. Here’s what I get:

Any file containing “island” is the same model. I tried saving it any way I could from my desktop. You can see, for some reason, there are files showing no data.. I tried selecting “Kayce and Seth’s island” as it shows 117Kb of data. I get the screen below.

I highlight the file “untitled.skp” and select “open” and here’s what I get:

I think I figured it out. Thanks for your willingness to help.
