Transfer licence to new laptop

How do I transfer my existing licence for SketchUp Pro 2014 to a new laptop?

• remove license from “Help > License…”
• install on new system with existing license data (be aware of system requirements)
• done

There does not seem to be anywhere obvious on SketchUp website to download previous versions of SketchUp, in this case specifically SketchUp 2014 Pro. I need to get an installation file to put it on my new laptop before transferring the licence details…

Agreed. The “Download All” page link should be in one of the link columns in the standard sketchup.com website. They try to hide it, and force newbies to go through a download wizard (which often fails to give the new user the version they need.)

It has just been suggested to me by the Australian distributor that my 2014 version of SketchUp Pro is no longer supported by SketchUp, which means I cannot install it on any new devices.
To suggest that SketchUp no longer supports a piece of software that is only 2 years old is very disappointing and certainly not consistent with industry standard timeframes. I am not particularly happy to have it suggested that I need to spend $ to update as the only way to utilise the software that I already own and is only 2 years old…

you can of course install on any new device, in the boundaries of the system requirements valid for your particular SU version of course.

Trimble is of course supporting their main and only product further, therefore developing new software revisions with new functionality and supporting new operating systems/hardware for their living as well as providing maintenance releases fixing issues and improving exisiting functionality for free.

the only way to utilise the software is to simply use it in connection with a system the manufacturer has promised to work on (see above).

there is no endless maintenance guarantee for free, as you probably did not work for free also…

See: SketchUp Application Release Notes
SketchUp 2014 was released in Feb 2014, and is now 2 years + 9 months old. But it is not the age (or years since) release that is the factor.

SketchUp switched to the yearly subscription software model for SketchUp 2013 and beyond. Even Microsoft has done this for it’s MS Office products.

Currently, Trimble officially supports the current and two previous versions of the Pro edition, and the current version of the Make edition. (To the extent that these versions can be supported with regard to external factors, such as OS version and their browser version support. Also, 3rd party web services [like Google Maps] support for browser versions can also play a role in maintainability.)

This is what you currently see made available for download on the “Download All” page:
http://www.sketchup.com/download/all

Since the release of SketchUp 2015, the releases of major SketchUp versions have been moved to the autumn, (usually early November,) to mesh with the fall conventions that Trimble often hosts. (ie, Trimble Dimensions User Conference for example.)

… So we getting very near to a month away from the next major version release. … or we can say within the next 2 months. When that happens, SketchUp 2015 Pro will become the earliest version under official support.

Now official support extends to into contact support. But since the maintenance plan & yearly release cycle was adopted, there has only been a few maintenance releases (aka software updates) during the current release cycle only (which extends until the next major version release.)

So, SketchUp 2014, had only update MR1 in June 2015, and will (most likely) never have any more. They just cannot be working on the code of 2 editions for two major OSes, across 13 languages all at the same time.

Saying that the term “not consistent with industry standard timeframes” has bearing on the support of your edition of SketchUp, would only be correct IF this is one of the terms and conditions in the license agreement, you agreed to by using the software.

Lastly, we (ie, helpful users here,) nor your local distributor, is the determiner of facts surrounding your product support. That instead is the actual SketchUp 2014 terms of use you agreed to. It is a binding legal agreement between you and Trimble.

Thank you for link to the download for Sketchup Pro 2014. Simply put, that is what I asked for of the reseller (and would have circumvented any of this discussion) and I was told it is not possible and I would need to upgrade. So, that was either ignorance on their part, or opportunistic selling…

I have been a user of Sketchup user in various forms for many years and think the software is innovative and very useable. I am happy to support it and upgrade at a time I choose, but a little over 2 years only is not necessarily appropriate when I am quite happy with what I have at the moment.

Hello, DanRathbun or sages and learned ones.

I need to reinstall SU Pro 7 to a new laptop due to collapse of the old one.

I tried searching for SU Pro7, but I could only find SU2017.

Q: How do I Install SU Pro7 on my new device?

Thanks

SU v7 was made for Windows XP and Mac OS X v10.4… what operating system does your new notebook use? … maybe time to upgrade to a new SU version too?

Hello Posh GmbH, thanks for your reply. I appreciate it.

I was working with a VOSTRO 3700, 4Gb RAM on W8.1, which collapsed (burnt
screen).

New screens are too hard to get. So I switched back to my old DELL Inspiron
1721, with 4GbRAM which was the device I had when I got SU. I then switched
from XP to W7 and now I am on W8.1 64bits.

I refurbished this Inspiron with a SSD for speed., and it’s going quite ok.
However, I need my SU Pro back.

It is impossible to purchase anything in foreign currency in our country
unless you have a secret foreign account, therefore SU Pro 2017 is out of
the question for us.

Cheers,

how did you have bought the Vostro then?

https://www.posh.de/filebase/category/10-trial//?l=2

The system requirements of SketchUp v7 (2009) do obviously not cover Windows v8.x, therefore issues are likely to occur.

I bought my repaired VOSTRO 2nd hand last year. But since you ask, I think
you need to know what’s going on here:

Last month I bought memory extensions and an SSD from AMAZON with a gift
card I had since 2008…

In case you wish to know, I had bought my Inspiron online from DELL in
2009. We could buy almost anything then.

By 2012/13 we had barely US$ 400 a year/inh assigned for online shopping.
Purchase of foreign cash was banned.

By 2014 assignment was reduced to US$300,

Today it is US$0.00.

US$ black market exchange rate rocketed last month to one-half of our
minimal salary to the dollar. (1US$=Ven Bs18,920), that’s why for most of
us it’s really hard to buy imported goods.

Purchasing dollars on the black market makes you liable to sentences harder
than drug trafficking. And I hope this answers your question.

I wish somebody could please now answer mine:

How on earth can I recover my SU Pro 7.x.y.z license to install in an old,
refurbished laptop?

Thanks.

simply download from the link I already have provided you above.

and can you remove your signature, tia.

Ok, thanks,

Q: Is this SU the basic free edition or is it the Pro edition?

Also: I do not understand “…can you remove your signature, tia”

You are posting by email into open forum and all you email signature is on display.

according to the description denoting “SketchUp Pro” my assumption would be that a Pro version is involved.
