Tracking down texture usage

This is more obsessive than truly a problem, but I noticed my template had some rogue textures I want to purge, so I just thought I’d track them down. There’s no specific tool I know of that shows you what assets are using any particular texture that’s listed as a “Color in Model”. (@eneroth3 did do an extension like that with tag useage). After purging unused components, turning on every tag, turning on hidden geometry and hidden objects, unhide all, deleting everything in the model and purging unused textures, and there’s still one left that SU thinks is “in Use” - i.e. Purge Unused is greyed out. Go figure! If anyone has more insight, I’m all ears.

(Yes, I’ll just force delete the texture and move on, but I just find it puzzling.)

Follow up: Starting over again with Purge Unused components, and then Purge Unused textures DID delete that one texture I was eventually left with — something about the sequence of what I did made a difference — perhaps having that texture selected with the bucket tool protected it or something.

Try V-Ray

Or Curic Deep Properties

Funny thing. If there were no components shown in the In Model components panel, Purge Unused should have been grayed out and not available.

FWIW, I like TIG’s Purge All for purging unused content. It purges unused components first and then unused materials. I also appreciate that it gives a report of how many of each type of content has been removed.

I think there’s a bug that causes the purge unused to stick to being disabled. If I remember correctly it gets disabled when you use it (to convey there’s nothing left to purge) but there are actions that logically should re-enable it but don’t. I’ve seen similar things and think it’s related to purging materials, then components, the wanting to purge materials again.

Restarting SketchUp or even just collapsing and expanding the panel might get you out of that bad state.
