Total NewBie question on importing pictures

Sorry if this question is really stupid… I want to do the following:

  • Import a picture of a profile

  • Create a polygon following this picture.

I managed to import the picture but I have the following problem:

  • I do not know how to crop it

  • If I try to follow the profile, the points snap to some given positions (line perpendicular to the previous, line on on axis…) and I do not know how to turn off snapping to somewhere.

Thanks for your help,
best regards,

Could you post the profile image? It would be easier to tell you exactly what you need to do if we could see it.

In general, I probably wouldn’t be worried about cropping the image. If you want to use the image as a texture, it’ll crop itself when you’ve completed the face.

As for tracing it, you will likely find that zooming in closer will help. You may also find that using guide lines created with the Tape Measure tool, can help by giving you snap points.

This is called “inferencing” and you cannot (yet) turn it off in SketchUp.

You can switch off length and/or angle snapping in the “Units” panel of the “Model Info” dialog.
