Third Party Pen?

I have had a search around and not found an answer, or the same question:

Do third party pens work (I have a metapen) the same as the Apple pencil when it comes to ipad SU?

Thank you

I don’t know, but you can open SketchUp on iPad, sign in with an email that doesn’t have a subscription, and play around in the dance center example model. The select tool and tape measure tool, and other tools in the palettes, all can be used with the Apple Pencil. If they work with the metapen, you would think that editing models would work as well.

To the extent you can draw with your finger, you can use a 3rd party pen, but the experience isn’t great. I tried my Wacom Bamboo stylus just to see and it wasn’t great compared to the regular Apple Pencil. Palm rejection is much better with with Apple Pencils which means you can rest your hand on the screen when you need too. The latest Apple Pencil 2 and Pro allow for hover in SU for iPad, and that makes all the difference in the world.

Thank you, I didn’t realise this. I have been learning as much as possible with tutorials before signing up for the trial, so as not to waste my trial time.

Most excellent, thank you. That also answers another question bouncing around my head about palm rejection and whether it was pen specific or not!
