Thanks for the very thoughtful reply. It helps me understand Sketchup’s viewpoint. I think part of the problem is that I’m now retired and using Sketchup Pro occasionally, so I can’t really justify a subscription.
What do you mean?
Who’s developing it? Has there been some kind of announcement?
Oh nice but who is the tool by so we can check it out?
I have heard good things about this iPad tool but have not yet had a chance to test it https://nomadsculpt.com/
The general consensus here is that the link is shared, I believe, not just leaving breadcrumps
Lol - “Breadcrumbing” is a different word than the one I had in mind, but I suppose we can go with that
What I think is power full in sketchup that we have layout module 2d drawing that need some additional tools in term of 2d that make it really interesting. And using skp viewer module as rendering platform this also will add another cord to the aRC
Sorry Aaron, but that sounds like a pretty big cop-out. This is pretty clearly a way to push old users into a forced upgrade. I know its not directly your decision, but generally speaking, this is a pretty poor excuse. SketchUp used to be software-for-all and now it’s becoming more and more like Revit, or AutoCad. Small firms are being pushed into SAAS models that require yearly payments with little or no real improvements and it’s incredibly frustrating, and frankly a big let-down.
I can see the future from here, improvement will be reserved for subscribe users, 250 usd per years for no improvement hhhh and tomorrow more trimble improve sketchup more we have to pay. Meanwhile trimble gives us no choice else subscribing
Wait…the same Apple who’s business model is coming apart at the seams? THAT Apple?..lol…
Yea ok…
LOL what? They clearly have one of the best business models in the business world. Profiting quarter after quarter for decades.
On mobile devices. Last qtr’s revenue showed only 10.11% from their “Mac” division. I mean they make double on “Services” as compared to the “Mac” line. Also their “Mac” lines seems to be shrinking. Not saying that they don’t make TONS of money mind you, they do. Let’s just be clear on what they make $$ on. Almost 50% just on iPhones and another 9% on iPads. But hey, whatever sales.
Not sure how the breakdown of their profit has any relevance to the point. At all. It remains one of the best business models that has ever existed in the history of mankind and business. And a far cry from the nonsense that it is “coming apart at the seams.” There is literally no seam anyone can point out, let alone something coming apart.
LOL, just making a point on how their business model has shifted over the years.
But I hope Apple involvement is only philanthropic. I don’t see how they would mesh with the open source nature, so antithetical to how Apple operates in the SW realm.
Yea I can see my point wasn’t made with that statement so I will concede and bow out of this conversation. And I will still defend the SketchUp product and support it by subscribing every year like I have been. It is what it is.
I don’t think it’s any different than when Adobe became a contributor a while ago.
It’s in Apple’s interest to have Blender working on Macs, so it’s a good move for them to contribute, but Blender is pretty well set up to be insulated from outside influences when it comes to their licensing. This is a really interesting video about Blender’s legal makeup
How far into 2023 do we need to get before we get a new version? The last version of 2022 was pushed in February 24, 2022 (SketchUp Desktop 2022.0.1 | SketchUp Help) and we haven’t seen anything since. An entire year of crickets.
