Texture on Texture

I’m trying to put a texture on a texture. Example; I have a wall with a texture of peeling paint. I want to apply a texture of dirt onto the bottom of the wall. And then add maybe grafitti. I put the peeled paint on as a texture and all was good. Then when I went to add the texture of dirt onto the bottom of the wall it tiled onto the whole wall. I tried resizing but to no avail. Now I can’t see the peeled paint. So I deleted the dirt and applied it as a photo and it worked, to an extent. When I orbit SU can’t put both on the same plane. I even tried using a texture that supposedly is partly see through but it ends up tiling also and graying out the wall. So tell me how to do it the right way. Thanks, Adam Reed

You can only put one texture on a face at a time. Edit the texture on the wall in an image editor and add the grafitti or whatever to it.

What version of SketchUp are you using? Please complete your forum profile.

Depending on the size of the wall and the base texture, the base texture may be smaller than the wall and will be repetitive, and you may need to create a unique wall texture first and edit it.

  • If the ultimate goal is to render the model and you have V-ray, then you can create a blend material
  • And there is another option, UV unwrapping and UV mapping
