Terrain Modeling/Sandbox

Every time I try to use the stamp tool and Sandbox, the program just freezes.

Can you share the .skp file so we can see what you’re working with? How detailed is the terrain geometry? What are you trying to stamp into it?

What graphics card?

Not sure how to share the .skp file on here. The model is just a house with a pool. It’s just a blank terrain 250’ X 250’ with 4’ grids. The graphics card is Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650. I’ve run the Sketchup Checker and everything checks out.

Drag and drop the .skp file into a reply here. Or if it’s too large to upload directly, upload to Drop Box and share the link.

Make sure the GPU drivers are up to date. Go to Nvidia and download their latest drivers to install.

Please also complete your profile with the graphics card info.

This is what I see but no terrain to stamp anything onto. What are you trying to stamp onto?

By the way, I fixed the incorrect tag usage. ALL edges and faces should be created and remain untagged.

And I purged unused stuff from your file which reduced the file size by about 43%.

All I had was a terrain from scratch, but when I do the stamp tool, it completely freezes and I have to shut down the program and lose the all the changes

So create the terrain from scratch and share the file again.

Make sure you are using the Stamp tool correctly, too. After getting the tool the direction shown at the lower left says to select the face or faces to stamp into the terrain. The faces need to be loose geometry and they need to be placed above the terrain where you want the stamp to occur. After selecting the face(s) then click on the terrain group. Then set the depth.
stamp

Most times the problem has been starting as soon as I click on the stamp icon

I’ve had to force shut down Sketchup twice after i put in the terrain and touch stamp icon

This latest file doesn’t have the terrain either. Try what I showed in my GIF. Do it in a separate file with a simple shape like I did.

I did try that with a simple rectangle and it worked just fine. So, I took my model and hovered it over the terrain. I exploded the group with the pool area, I was slowly able to stamp a couple faces, but by the third attempt it was frozen for several minutes (actually just unfroze while I’m typing).

Lots of geometry to deal with so your computer has to work hard. Fix the incorrect tag usage first.
