Terrain grids

Hello

How can I convert a surface from a rectangle in the tools menu with various grids sizes and by adding grid squares of various sizes to work with using the smoove tool in sandbox. I dont want to use sandbox. Its to create small faces inside the surface to be able to raise mounds at different places on the surface.

Well Sandbox ‘From Scratch’ seems to be the way to go since there’s no ‘Convert’-face-to-grid’ tool in SU. Some extensions like Artisan have a ‘Sub-divide’ tool but sure this warrants the cost of purchasing an extension.

Start by creating the grid you want to divide your plane up into - setting the grid spacing via measurements box (below is what 1’ spacing looks like).

Then with your grid positioned above your surface you want subdivided, use the ‘Drape’ tool.

Now your base plane or geometry will have the grid lines that you can then ‘Smoove’ into mounds.

thanks, I found another option, I can take a new sandbox plate while inputting the grid size in the bottom / right corner of the screen and put in 100’, 200’, 350’ sqr feet. Then, using ”Drape” tool from the new created sandbox plate, and draping it onto the plain new preformed hilly surface, which might already have hills but not the exact form I’m looking for, but able to modify further.
