Hi, this is P,
What is the best way to get started? Use the SketchUP Web version? Can you save projects? Are there any limitations?
If not the web version, what is the best version to use that is affordable but you can also use for work/consulting small jobs without encountering sharing or transferring issues.
First, if you are going to be using SketchUp for “work/consulting jobs” you can’t use the free web version. That would be a limitation.
What is it you are going to be modeling and what deliverables do you need to provide from it? You might be able to get by with a SketchUp Go subscription and either the web-based version on your computer or SketchUp for iPad. More likely you’ll want at least a SketchUp Pro subscription so you can use SketchUp for Desktop which includes LayOut and a number of other features. With that subscription you would also have SketchUp for iPad and SketchUp Go for web.
From a beginner’s point of view the main difference between SketchUp for Desktop and SketchUp on the web is the user interface. They look different and some things aren’t in the same place. Nothing real major, though. Some people find it easier to learn on the version they will be using.
As for sharing or transferring issues, I’m not sure what you are thinking of. SketchUp files are SketchUp files. Who do you want to share them with?
hi, thanks for the response! I just want to be able to model a room and furniture pieces at this point. But maybe later on a whole house?.
But most likely I just need pngs for presentations or pdfs. . although I would sometimes want to do a short video walk-thru clip of a space?

It sounds you would want the Pro subscription so you can use SketchUp Desktop and LayOut. The web version wouldn’t really be enough.
Thanks for the input! I appreciate it!
